The Hearth Room

Dinner

A short menu cooked over the open fire — Dales lamb with roots from the kitchen garden, beer-braised beef with pearl barley, a mushroom and hazelnut pie for the meatless, and a rice pudding finished under the grill. Three courses at an unhurried pace; last orders at ten.

The Bar

Ales & Malts

Four cask ales from breweries within an hour's drive of the door, a shelf of some forty single malts, and a plain bar menu — Yorkshire rarebit, potted trout, a proper pork pie — served until midnight beside a fire kept in from the first cold evening of autumn.

The Kitchen Table

Breakfast

Breakfast at the long oak table off the kitchen: eggs from the farm below, dry-cured bacon, oatcakes with heather honey, and coffee made properly. Served from seven until half past ten, an hour later on Sundays.
